Video Poker is a beloved game that can be enjoyed in casinos across the world, or alternatively at your house on your home computer, using a net connection. The rules are absolutely simple and involve the player trying to get the best combination of cards achievable in order to win money. In this respect it is very similar as a classic game of poker, minus the involvement with other players. Of course, methods employed during a physical game of poker, such as bluffing, will be irrelevant here.
The game of Video Poker starts when the gambler puts credits (whether it is tokens, tickets or cash) into the machine and presses the play button. A 5 card hand will then be electronically ‘given out’ on the screen.
The Video Poker game also has buttons with ‘hold’ written on them, and bettors will need to now decide which cards to hold and which to throw away. For the cards the player wishes to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons should be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can decide to keep any amount of cards they wish, from all to none.
After the gambler has chosen which cards she would like to retain, the player will then press ‘draw’, at which point any new cards are needed they will be dealt. The hand is now completed, with the Video Poker machine scanning the cards to see if it matches any of the winning hands listed in the payment schedule.
Typically, the lowest winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money growing for each and every better hand. A list of common winning hands begins with jacks or better, moving on to two pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It should be known that the payout schedule can vary from game to game, so that knowledgeable enthusiasts are able to select the most money-making game each and every time.
Once the first round has played out, the player can either choose to remain on in an attempt to increase their winnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any credits that they may have won. Further, several versions of the game give the player a chance to double their winnings, in which case another round is played. There are also variations among specific games, with some virtual decks having wild cards and other differing elements to enhance playability.
