Video Poker is a popular game that can be bet on in casinos throughout the globe, or alternatively at home on your home computer, using a net account. The rules are very straightforward and consist of the player trying to get the highest combination of cards possible in order to win money. On this account it is much the same as a regular game of poker, apart from the line of contact with any other players. Of course, techniques used in a physical game of poker, like bluffing, will be useless here.
The game of Electronic Poker starts when the enthusiast puts credits (either tokens, credit slips or money) into the video poker machine and presses the deal button. A hand of five cards will be electronically ‘handed out’ on the screen.
The Video Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ printed on them, and players will need to now decide which cards to keep and which to throw away. For the cards the player would like to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can decide to keep any amount of cards they want, from all to none.
After the player has decided on which cards he wishes to retain, the player will then press ‘draw’, which will mean that any new cards will be needed they will be dealt. The game is now finished, with the Electronic Poker machine scanning the hand to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands shown on the payout schedule.
Generally, the minimum winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money getting larger for each and every better hand. A list of common winning hands begins with jacks or better, moving on to 2 pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It is obvious that the pay out schedule can change from game to game, so that experienced gamblers are able to choose the most beneficial game every time.
Once the initial round has completed, the player can either choose to continue on and try to to increase their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any credits that have been won. Further, some styles of the game give the enthusiast a chance to increase their profits, in which case a further game is played. There are also variations between specific games, with some decks of cards having wild cards and other varying characteristics to increase playability.
