Video Poker is a popular game that usually will be enjoyed in casinos across the world, or alternatively at home on your personal computer, through a web connection. The game rules are very straightforward and involve the player trying to get the highest assemblage of cards achievable in order to acquire cash. In this respect it is much the same as a classic game of poker, minus the line of contact with other players. Of course, tactics employed during a physical game of poker, such as tricking, will be irrelevant in Video Poker.
The game of Video Poker starts when the player inserts credits (whether it is tokens, credit slips or cash) into the video poker machine and pushes the draw button. A hand of 5 cards will then be electronically ‘dealt’ on the screen.
The Video Poker machine also has hold buttons, and gamblers will need to now decide which cards to keep and which to throw away. For the cards the gambler wishes to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can choose to keep any number of cards they want, from all to none.
After the bettor has chosen which cards he would like to keep, they should press ‘deal’, at which point any fresh cards are needed they will be handed out. The hand is now completed, with the Video Poker machine scanning the cards to see if it matches any of the winning hands listed in the pay out schedule.
Typically, the lowest winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money getting larger for each better hand. A list of common winning hands begins with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It should be known that the payment schedule can vary from game to game, so that knowledgeable enthusiasts are able to select the most profitable game each time.
As soon as the first round has completed, the player can either decide to remain on in an attempt to increase their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any cash that has been won. Further, several styles of the game give the player an opportunity to double their profits, in which case another hand is played. There are also differences among specific machines, with some virtual decks including wild cards and other differing aspects to increase playability.
